I prefer to use the holes and self tapping metal screws to attach the hose to blast gates, but if using a hose clamp to connect the blast gates, I’ve found that some weather stripping or other soft/tacky material helps prevent the hose from yanking loose given the variations in the manufacture of different gates.  I also trim notches between the hose edge and slots to allow for more compression and tighter compression of the fitting.
